The
New Amsterdam Recorder Trio (NewART) performs medieval, renaissance,
baroque
and modern music, as well as arrangements of traditional/world music,
and their
collection of instruments numbers more than two dozen recorders from
makers
around the world. In its short lifetime,
the trio has developed an extremely eager and devoted following,
appearing in
performances throughout the New
York
tri-state area, including concerts with the world-renowned Flanders
Recorder
Quartet in both 2003 and 2004. The
ensemble received very strong recommendations in the 2003 Concert
Artists Guild
competition, and their concerts have gained both local and national
acclaim. A demo CD recorded in October
2002 has been enthusiastically received by listeners. In 2004
they were featured in the inaugural
New York Early Music Celebration, and appeared in concert at the
Metropolitan
Museum of Art, New York.
NewART
was founded in 2001 by three recorder virtuosi, from England, Israel
and the Netherlands,
now living in New York. They take their name from the original name
for New York; their name also
reflects both the more
recent recognition of Amsterdam
as
the “recorder capital” of the world and their desire to break new
ground in the
art of recorder playing. Individually,
the three trio members are each extremely active, both nationally and
internationally, as soloists, freelance musicians, and educators.
